About North Carolina's Structured Sentencing System

North Carolina uses a structured sentencing framework that classifies misdemeanors into four levels—Class A1, 1, 2, and 3. Sentencing depends on both the offense class and the defendant's prior record level (I, II, or III). Each class carries different maximum jail times and fines, from up to 150 days (Class A1) down to 20 days (Class 3).
